15 nevertheless I think a new social philosophy definitely emerges. For the first time in history, the functional principle is gradually asserting itself in human affairs. It may be defined as the recognition of human activity, not as a selfish or selfcontained thing, but in its relation to the welfare of the community. Also we find in its very nature a new and fruitful development of democracy in industry. This is the first step in the case for Functional Socialism.
