E are apt to regret the lofs

of worthy inftruments, fuch

as have been raifed up in an extraor-

dinary manner, and eminently. quali-

fied above their brethren, thinking that

if we had enjoyed their good converfe,

we might have greatly benefited and

improved thereby : without doubt they

have a great happinefs, that enjoy fuch a benefit and improve it.

But we muft confider men are but inftruments, and it is-very rare but that the excellency and purity of truth conveyed by them, receives fome fhadow or foil from the medium, ‘The
