BITEF THEATRE
★ danilo kiš (1935-1989) is one of the most important Yugoslav writers of the 20th century. His collected works include novels: Psalm 44, The Garret; Garden, Ashes; A Tomb for Boris Davidovich; a book of polemical essays A Lesson in Anatomy; collections of prose works Early Sorrows and The Encyclopedia of the Dead were published in fourteen volumes and translated into all mayor languages. He is the winner of many important awards including the Italian Premio de Trevere, German Preis des Literaturmagazins, French “Grand aigle d’ or de la Ville de Nice”, Bruno Shulz Prize of the American PEN Centre, NIN Award, Andric Award, Ivan Goran Kovačič Award, Skender Kulenović Award and many others. He is translated from Serbian, Russian, French and Hungarian and worked as lecturer at the universities in Bordeaux and Lille. Kiš was correspondant member of Serbian Academy of Science and Arts since 1988. He is considered the author who perfomed a poetical revolution in The Yugoslav Literature.
★ IVICA BULJAN (Sinj, 1965.) is a director whose rich opus includes more than fifty theatre productions. He has won many tributes for his work: Dubravko Dujšin Award, Petar Brečić Award, Peristil Award, three Borštnik awards, City of Havana Medal, Sterija Award, Gavella Award and others. His productions have participated in many festivals in America, Korea, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Venezuela, Austria, Greece, Macedonia, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, the United Kingdom and Bulgaria and all relevant festivals in the region. He was a visiting lecturer at universities in Paris, Brussels and Moscow. Buljan teaches at the National Theatre School in Saint Etienne and Rennes, France. He headed the Drama Section of HNK in Split in 19982002. He is one of the founders of Mini Teatar in Ljubljana where he often works as a director and dramaturgist. Buljan is also among the founders of the World Theatre Festival in Zagreb and acts as its artistic director. His production of The Cat on the Hot Tin Roof was shown at the 45th Bitef 11, the subtitle of which was inspired by the title of this production.
