27 th SEPTEMBER, 13.00 In front of the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade, Ušće, Belgrade French Institute, Belgrade, Serbia ★ WHAT A (NEW) CIRCUS Discussion about new circus Moderators: Philippe Le Moine, programme Theatroscope coordinator and Anne-Loiuse Cottet, Circostrada Network coordinator Duration: 120’ New circus is blooming all around the world and yet, this creative form is developing very slowly in the Balkans, although the region could contribute with new forms, production, and new audience. Many obstacles stand in the way: insufficient training, insufficient space, lack of money, but also many problems when it comes to travelling around, and setting up objects in urban environment. However, mostly due to resourcefulness and persistence of young professionals and certain institutions, new initiatives and projects are launched. There are two examples of that: regional project Cirkobalkana and New Circus Festival in Zagreb. These and other topics will be addressed at the debate which is to gather professionals from Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina... Some of the themes will be the possibilities and obstacles to the development of this art form, the importance of international exchange and new circus network, also within big European networks such as lETM or association Circostrada - a specialized European network for circus and street arts. In 2012, the French Institute launched the project Theatroscope , with an attempt to support performing arts, and exchange in the Balkans. Since the beginning of the project, they have organized many gatherings, supported trips of artists and professionals, and helped realize a number of projects such as Cirkobalkana.
