RTV Theory and Practice - Special Issue

It is not necessary to eliminate апу presentation of violence from television. Violence should be broadcast on television, primarily because it, like love, has been present in people’s lives since the very beginning of human existence, because it is a fact of everyday life and because television would not be showing the world realisticahy if violence were completely excluded from its programmes. Besides this, as stressed above, certain forms of violence have a positive frmction in society. It is, however, essential to eliminate from television programmes exceptionahy drastic scenes of violence, regardless of the dramatic plot and artistic realism of the broadcast ог the truthfulness of the information. Besides this, the broadcasting of scenes in which violence is used to achieve certain goals, in which the aggressors аге attractive etc., i.e. in ways in which violence is shown in апу way in an attractive hght and is not used for the defence of vital human interests, should be avoided. Only in this way can television achieve its positive function, i.e. develop cooperation and love of mankind instead of aggression as a form of communication between people.
