RTV Theory and Practice - Special Issue

For music programming, we play jazz, rhythm and blues , reggae , blues , гар , gospet. Weekday mornings we have a news program from 6-7 a.m. , a "wake-up" variety show from 7-9 a.m., and educationai programming interspersed with children's shows from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Afternoons continue with programs for a specific audience until 3 p.m. - this time, the older people in the community. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. there are our "after-school" programs for children and youth . Five p.m. to 8 p.m. is our daily Magazine-of-the Air , with news, documentaries and entertainment. The Radio Theater presentations are on from 8 to 9 or 10 p.m. most evenings, and then we play music and live call-in programs until sigh off sometime after 1 2 midnight. Weekend programming has music, of course, and also lots of đocumentaries from prođucers around the wortd, and shows by our Program Teams, plus church-related programs , and an "open mike" call-in show each Saturday and Sunday . On "Special Event" days - during Black History month, on International Women's Day, at City College's commencement - we cancel regular programs and put something on related to the events . We see our program schedule as both experimental and prof essional. If you volunteer for the station , or if you work with us as a student interested in a broadcasting career , you will learn what "real rađio people" do . It's just that you'll also learn how our new kind of radio goes beyond that line and, we think , makes radio more of an art, anđ community communication more of a prospect, because of it. Section Eight : THE CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK In the seven sections of the Manual before this one , there has been a lot of information to digest . That information referred to the radio station and its past and f uture. This section simply lets you know a little more about City College , so that you see where the station fits in . WHCR is admmistered by the Department of Commumcations , Film and Video . The Chairperson of the Department has official responsibility for WHCR , and the Station Manager reports to him .
