“ Brighton”’ the © Brighthelm-ton” of the Anglo-Saxons suggests a possible ‘* Briton,”’ as the old priory and market-house is called “‘ Barth-olomew ” and the adjoining parish is “‘ Kymere”’ (i.e., Cymyr) (see Camden 1, 290, 291.) It has old Stone and Bronze Age remains* and Briton coins.*
