NOURISHED FRUIT PROJECT CALENDAR: I phase 4-16 May 2007, Rikstatern, Stockholm, Sweden II phase 9-20 September 2008, Belgrade, Serbia, 42 Bitef 08, ENPARTS programme 111 phase February 2009, Venice, Festival Internazionale di Teatro/ La Biennale di Venezia, ENPARTS programme IV phase December 2009, Berlin, Germany, Berliner Festspiele, ENPARTS programme IDEA BEHINDTHE PROJECT One morning, when the main character of Strindberg's novella Nourished Fruit Sten is told that his house is no longer his, when shortly afterwards his things are taken out into the yard, we can remind of Sten's "relative", Josef K... or, to be even more precise, instead of the beginning of XVI c, somewhere deep in the Swedish province, we are at the beginning of a very contemporary story in which we recognize thousands of people around us, which over the night are loosing their homes and has to look for a new life. In that sense, Nourished Fruit is a story about man and his search for the place where he could proudly live nowadays. Looking for his own place, Sten, as if in a wondering phantasmagoria of a turn-up meaning, is passing through something which we recognize as a world today: insecure, dangerous, absurd place, in which there is no place for the week one, not even in a monastery. The image of heaps of things once constituting a life, used to be reality, and now piled up topsyturvy are kind of bonfire of remembrance, a heap of humiliated things taken from their order, that picture was a starting point of the workshop in Rikstheater... Nikita Milivojevic The main idea behind this project is the belief that the world of Strindberg's protagonists, presented in different languages (Serbian, Swedish, Japanese, Russian, German, Italian, Turkish...) by a company made of people from different countries, different cultures, religions and political options, of different age and sex, with different experiences, can reveal yet another side of the idea about a world without borders in which the whole planet should be our homeland. The authors/performers act in the space in-between, neither empty nor stretching from point A to point B: this space is radial, multilayered, as if digital, pulsating with multifaceted textures, powerful emotions and ageold dilemmas about the meaning of life and the existence of unique identities; between desires
