THEATRE AND MARKET

Aleksandar Brkič - producer and lecturer in the field of cultural management and cultural policy It is more and more often heard, especially from the public sector decision makers, that institutions and cultural organisations need to turn to the market. It is now implied that the "almighty market" will regulate everything by itself. Our wish is to initiate the topic of what the market means in the theatre domain ■■ and if it is possible to maintain high aestetic criteria with an approach completely adjusted to the market. We would like to engage

experts in cultural policy but also regional artists who have shown a considerable level of entrepreneurial initiative, but also regional artists which have shown a considerable level of entrepreneurial initiative, but have also kept the high aestetic criteria for theatre projects they're involved in. We would also like to put light on the influences on the artist's work made by new funders, foundations, sponsors and public sector decision makers (in a manner of speaking “contractors") in order to figure out how much these restrictions affect artwork and how far do the compromises go to get a theatre project going.
