Written in 2008, Belgrade is a text in poetic form whose starting point is a historical event: the funeral of Slobodan Milošević, and Serbia in 2006. Baltasar is a young Spanish journalist working for his father. His father, a Nobel Prize laureate and a Balkan specialist, sends him to Belgrade in March 2006 in order to gather information for his upcoming book. Baltasar first meets Dragan, an attendant to The Yugoslav History Museum where Milošević’s corpse was exposed. He then meets Agnes, a Spanish war reporter back from Kosovo and finally Željko, an ex-soldier and Milošević partisan. Baltasar then decides to fly back home: he confronts his mother before meeting up with Željko’s brother, Borislav who has just immigrated to Spain. He invites him over for dinner.
