Director: Gerd Oswald Screenplay: Harold Medford and Gerd Oswald, based on a story by Stefan Zweig Cast: Kurd Jurgens, Clair Bloom, Mario Adorf Country: Germany 35 mm b/w, 1960 Gerd Oswald, the son of the famous German theatre and film director Richard Oswald, was born in Berlin and began to act already as a child. He started his professional life as an assistant director but the circumstances in Germany disrupted his career. In 1938 his family emigrated from Hitler’s Germany to Hollywood where the refugees were not received with open arms. Oswald made his way painstakingly and slowly. He directed mostly so-called B films and was seldom entrusted with more important Hollywood projects such as Paris Holiday with Bob Hope. He worked also for television and among other things directed the first season of the Star Trek series.

ff We live in the age of the refugee, the age of the exile, Arijel Dorfman, argentinsko-čileanski pisac

ff I know how men in exile feed on dreams. Aeschylus

ff Enough of painters, enough of scribblers, enough of musicians, enough of sculptors, enough of believers, enough of royalists, enough of radicals, enough of imperialists, enough of anarchists, enough of socialists, enough of communists, enough of the proletariat, enough of democrats, enough of republicans, enough of the middle class, enough of aristocrats, enough of weaponry, enough of the police, enough of nations, let's put an end to this nonsense: we are left with nothing, absolutely nothing, nothing, nothing. Louis Aragon, French poet
