THEATRE AS YOUTH WORK Interactive presentation of a method in progress

■ In this interactive presentation, Milena Bogavac and Vojislav Arsić will try to articulate their ethical, aesthetical, artistic and activist principles, and to explain the techniques that they have used in their work. The theatre they are interested in puts and equal sign between ethics and aesthetics, between process and the product, political and artistic, creative and activist. They see the theatre as a form of work with the young, while they see the work with the young as an everlasting stimulation of creativity, selfeducation and self-esteem in young people. Firmly confident that applied theatre is a powerful tool for social emancipation, they create educational performances through a collective and research approach based on workshops and methodological games. They make performances with and for young people, devising concepts in terms of dramaturgy, directing and education, which turn the performers into co-authors, but also into promoters of social values and positive changes.

* Besides the interactive presentation, Milena Bogavac and Vojkan Arsić will also present a documentary film directed by Ivan Stoiljković. How to make a Machomen is film that follows and documents six months of experimental and research work in the theatre through the stories of ten young men whose experience in growing up in Serbia was the starting point for the production of Machomen. How much did their work in the production change them, is only one of the questions answered by this documentary. Honestly, fairly and “manly”. Without embellishments of compromises. ■
