THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

The ServantofTwo Masters, or thè comedy of double game. Contemporary renewal in Serbian language of a classic Goldonian play. It is a very special staging of The ServantofTwo Masters, which transfers a Goldonian story into the present reality of Serbia, using a geographic and temporal translation, apart from a linguistic one and which transforms this play into a cruel and ironie comedy about profit and double game. The transcript is realized in six hands of director Andrea Paciotto, together with Susanne Winnacker and Jovan Cirilov, who transleted it into Serbian language. An actualized event resulted from it, in which the Balkan spirit and sharp Serbian irony are joined with Goldonian grace and humour, reviving an amusing as well as a wild game. The scenica! staging is realized through a dynamic texture of actions, pictures, live music, ambient electronic sounds and video enclosures. These elements serve to connect different parts of thè story, as in a kind of a reconstruction in a pólice investigation. They provide necessary clues for understanding dark points of thè story, especially of those concerning Federigo's murder and relations of the characters involved in the crime. Goldoni's Servant Starts exactly with that murder. But, although the author himself does not deepen too much thè story about thè murdered one and prefers to concentrate on the character of Servant, that first one, actually is a central event out of which a sequence of situations come out, all peripeteia and exchange of persons which create richness of this theatrical play.The comedy therefore is coloured with dark shades, which emphasize contrasts and ambiguous dualism of situations and characters.
