FRANK KASTORF (Frank Castorf) je roden u Istočnom Berlinu 1951,studirao je dramu na Humboltovom univerzitetu и Berlinu i radio kao dramaturg и Zenftenbergu. Režirao je u Istočnoj Nemačkoj, a nakon pada Zida 1989, i и Zapadnoj Nemačkoj, tekstove Getea, Šekspira, Lesinga, Ibzena, Bulgakova, često Hajnera Milera i mnogih drugih. Saradnja Kastorfa sa Bertom Nojmanom, glavnim scenografom pozorišta Folksbine am Roza-Luksemburg Plac, prerasta u umetničku konstantu. Kastrof je za svoj rad kao reditelj i prvi čovek pozorista Folksbine am RozaLuksemburg Plac, dobio i mnogobrojne nagrade. One uključuju brojna učešća na Pozorišnim susretima u Berlinu (Berliner Theatertreffen), Kortnerovu nagrada koju dodeljuje časopis Theaterheute, Pozorisnu nagradu Berlina koju je poneo sa glumcem Henrijem Hibhenom, kao i nagradu Nestroj, koja se dodeljuje za najbolju režiju. FRANK CASTORF is born in East Berlin in 1951, studies dramatics at the Humboldt University in Berlin and works as a dramaturg in Senftenberg. In the subsequent years he stages in the 6DR, after 1989 in West Germany as well, plays by Goethe, Shakespeare, Lessing, Ibsen, Bulgakow and often by Heiner Müller, as well as others. With the beginning of the 1992/93 theatre season Frank Castorf is made director of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and in the following years stages more than twenty performances, not including guest productions in Basel, Hamburg, Stockholm, Vienna, Kopenhagen, Sâo Paulo and Zurich. The focal points of his work include novel adaptions by Dostoyevsky on one hand, and on the other hand American dramas by Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neill and Frank Norris. Hanging in the balance between East and West the usage of video has become an integral part of his work. Frank Castorfs collaboration with Bert Neumann, the Volksbühnen chief set designer, has further developed into an artistic constant. Time and again Frank Castorfs work as a director and head of the Volksbühne has been paid tribute to with prizes. This includes numerous invitations to the Berliner Theatertreffen, the Kortner Prize (awarded by Theaterheute), the „Theaterpreis Berlin" together with the actor Henry Hübchen and the Nestroy Prize for Best Directing. 1993 the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz is voted as Theatre of the year by Theaterheute magazine, 2002 and 2003 Frank Castorf becomes Director of the year. Furthermore, Frank Castorfs productions are regularly invited for guest performances by theatres around the world. Frank Castorf has extended his contract as director of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz until 2013. In the previous seasons he staged, among others, Kokain by Pitigrilli, Nord by Louis-Ferdinand Céline in co-production with Wiener Festwochen, Kean ou Désordre et Genie by Alexandre Dumas and Medea by Seneca in the course of the Volksbühnen antique drama project.
