SEPTEMBER 21 st , 17:00 Institution of Culture “Vuk Stefanović Karađžić” - Teatar Kult Podgorica City Teatre - Children’s Stage, Podgorica, Montenegro Maja Todorović -THE CHINAMAN Duration: 85’ (After the performance discussion with the audience) Director: Anja Suša Set design: Zorana Petrov Costume design: Maja Mirković Composer: Igor Gostuški Cast: Emir Ćatović, Jelena Simić, Goran Slavic, Horislavci Children’s Choir, Belgrade Conducton Saška Stanković Executive producer: Ana Medigović Photographer: Balša Rakočević The Chinaman by Maja Todorović addresses many neuralgic points of our (post)-transitional traumas whose principal victims are children- heroes of this story. An apparently minor story about the growing friendship between a boy and a girl and the finding of the grain of purpose and reason in a world of cruel prejudices and failure to recognise and respect others and different is a reflection of a much more complex story about the contemporary society which does not look kindly on tenderness and sincerity and which, above all, despises weakness. This is a subtle, poetic piece for children over the age of 12, which broaches seriously the topic of painful growing up in an environment of a disrupted system of values in which an imaginary, twisted world of games becomes the reality of alienated, lonely and confused children.
