By a monk, Huai Su ([# x), of the T“ang period, a calligrapher who specialized in Ts‘ao-Shu. He was very fond of wine, and wrote quickly and beautifully whilst he was drunk. Being very poor, and lacking money to buy paper, he planted many banana trees in his native home and used the leaves for writing. He called his writing ‘ The calligraphy of an intoxicated immortal’. From his style one can imagine his appearance
