The provision of information ш the republics and provinces also represents one of the elements ot the uniform system of the provision of information in the country, through which there is the permanent exchange of ideas, posihon and opinions essential for the uniformity of interests and goals of the working class of the nations and nationalities of Yugoslavia. 3. Television plays an important role in such a Yugoslav information system. It is today made up of eight organisations with several thousand employees and the approximate number of external associates. The number of television Ucences exceeds three nulhon and the volume of produced and treated programmes is over 7,000 hours. The programmes аге transmitted in eleven languages and the technical level in the Yugoslav TV centres is excellent... 4. On account of the question under discussion today, it should be bome in mind that the provision of information occurs as the lever ot organisation, Unking and integration but that it can also be intentionaUy ог non-intentionaUy - the source of disorgamsation, separatism and disintigration. 111 Yugoslav television is a factor of self-management integration in four main aspects (this is, of course, only one of the possible systematical analyses of the problem): 1. Television acts as an integrating factor because it is an institution with a specific social function, specific activity of particular social interest, highly significant absorption power of mteUectual and physical work and a large diffusion агеа... 2 Television also acts as an integrating factor as the producer ot programmes of specific quaUty, quantity and structure which reach the broadest strata of the population. 3 As the transmitter of programmes from аИ the Yugoslav TV stations, each TV centre in the repubUcs and provmces ot Yueoslavia deals with the intermediation of mformation »horizontaUy« and »verticahy«. In this way, it aids the estabhshment of contacts between those responsible for decision-makmg at different geographical pomts and at various »levels« of social organisation... 4 As independent organisations of associated labour, the televisions also have an mtegrating effect when they cooperate m the dommn of business policy (fmance, technology, personnel, This aspect of the integrating effect is of special importance from point of view of the requirements of aU-people s defence.
