a commission by the City of Amsterdam. In 1958 he moved to Paris where he lived for nearly two years working with Roland Petit as a soloist. The majority of his ballets for Nederlands Dans Theater have also been televised and he has created some thirty independent television productions. In Queen Juliana’s birthday honours in 1970 he was awarded »Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau«. Hans van Manen is now with Het Nationale Ballet as a choreographer, but creates almost every season a new work for Nederlands Dans Theater, the last one being »Lieder Ohne Worte « with Mendelssohn’s piano-music, premiered during the Holland Festival in 1977.
