Explication of thè topic and scope of thè symposium

One of the most popular topics in the current Artworld is thè production ofknowledge, namely education as a means of production of knowledge. It is also thè case in thè performing arts, which are the primary (aithough not thè only one) focus of the Conference. What is typical ofthe current context is not only an increased numberof educational institutions related to the performing arts, but also the faetthat education itself is becoming an artwork. For the first aspect, the following imperatives are important: training, specialization, flow of knowledge and qualified workforce, ownership of Information, unification of educational Standards, competitiveness and speed, speed, speed! For the second aspect, thè criticai examples are large international exhibitions, Manifesta and Documenta. Manifesta 6 is planned not as an artwork exhibition, but as an educational program ofthe Мб School. The school is to work on the principies of Black Mountain College and Bauhaus, tobe trans-disciplinary, and to have three departments - so that each curator, instead of choosing a certain number of artworks for the exhibition, leads one department ofthe Мб School. Originally, the school was tobe organized in Nicosia, to last 100 days and to have 60-100 students enrolled. One ofthe main programs of Documenta 12 is the Publishing project „Documenta 12 magazines", which assembles 90 Journals of art and theory from all over the world, which exchange articles and organize discussions, live, through online platform and exhibition publications. Education is one of its main themes. For activities ofthe magazines during the exhibition, a special hall is built, so these activities shift from the usual "offprogram"into the exhibition main program.
