RTV Theory and Practice - Special Issue

seem redundant to emphasize the importance of radio in educating the taste of the young and forming the value system of a socialist society. THE NUMBER OF TELEVISION VIEWERS IN THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SERBIA Ву a television viewer is meant апуопе who has been in contact with a television programme (the first ог second channel of TV Belgrade) lasting 15 minutes at the very least (the shortest time interval which can be identified by research but including viewing for 10 minutes) during the day preceding the investigation. The verbal answer to the question »Did you watch television yesterday?« posed to the respondent is considered truthful, sufficiently reliable and acceptable to form a basis for assessing a whole basic set (all citizens of Serbia over 15 years of age to whom the results refer). In order to standardize the instruments and for some other reasons we ask what was watched and record when it was watched and some slight imprecision can occur here in the reconstruction of the time of broadcasting of certain programmes. This is particularly true for short broadcasts of ten minutes or less. So, the information gathered can form a basis for the assessment not on!y of the number of viewers of a particular programme but also of the total number of persons who watched апу television programme on a particular day. Table 1 shows the estimated number of people who have a television set in the household where they live, (the average for the whole series of 14 days) and the number of television viewers. Since these аге data estimated from a sample they vary within the boundanes ot the егтог in the sample and it is worth bearing ш mind that the percentage of the realization of the plan of the sample is not the same in every senes. Since a dual-stage straiified sample selected on the basis of probability is used, it is possible to extend the data to a whole basic set and state them m thousands.
