■ The artistic programme Hard to 8e... Within the Time can be viewed through the • prysm of two major cultural events. One of them sheds light on Constantine's time and early Christianity in correlation with our time, and the second is based on the provocative curatorial exhibition Encyclopaedian Palace presented at the Venice Biennale this year, representing the transition from the present to the past time, in pursuit of the general knowledge, the truth, symbols and mysteries of existence. The early Christianity as a motif was addressed in Mutant Geography, an exhibition organised in Niš in late May 2013. On display were an installation by Radomir Damnjan, a work by Marco Chiese: a decomposed, floating Europe shaped like a scorpio; a work by Nenad Ignjatović; works by Serena Decarlo, Vesna Zarev, Bojana Atlija and Veljko Vujačić. The authors addressed questions such as the emergence of early religions: Judaism, Chistianity, Islam as well as history, geography, urban development and the European and Mediterranean social system under the Roman Empire. The interests of the artists ranged from direct questions about the religious and civilisational tolerance to the symbol represented by the Christian cross, the fusion of all religious symbols into a single sign of religion as the spiritual vertical of the humankind. The complex question of understanding the millennia-long past is as vital as the question: what is modernity? In the changing and unpredictable reality it is important to take note of the sensibility of young artists whose work has taken shape during the last few years so that today they constitute one of the most important group of artists, activists and creators. and as a group they investigated individual methods of work, developed artistic practice and made their place, identity and position. Some of them prefer autonomous creative work and another group explores the diversity of the artistic production as reflected in gallerz practice within the activity of 1)10 Gallery. They are authors with multiple interests, a broad range of meanings as to „what is work", from conceptually precise analytical, scientific, technological, provocative, social and ambiguous narratives to personal, emotional, symbolic journeys through spaces of imaginary and real images of the world. Young romantics, nihilists, symbolists, critical activists, realists and optimistic pessimists... Deeply immersed, they nevertheless surface because in their souls they carry the light of time and the directions for movement.
