Radio - Television Novi Sad Radio-Television Novi Sad is the home station of the Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in the Socialist Republic of Serbia. Technical Base MW transmitters 3 175.000 USW transmitters 6 110,370 TV transmitters 3 2,035,000 TV converters 1 0.300 Since 1949 Radio-Novi Sad has served as a source of information, a public platform, and a spearhead in the cultural development of the multi-national inhabitants of Vojvodina. It broadcasts programs in the Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, Slovakian, Romanian and Ruthenian languages, thus providing egalitarian information dissemination and a fostering of the cultural features of all the nations and nationalities living in the Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The Serbo-Croatian language program is broadcasted daily for 17 hours and 5 minutes; Hungarian - 19 hours; Slovakian - 3 hours; Romanian 2-3 hours; and Ruthenian - about 2 hours. All of these programs represent an entity and offer the opportunity to these nations and nationalities to support and develop their national characteristics. The literary, drama, humour and music programs also make a vital contribution. Teievision Novi Sad was founded in 1971 for the purpose of satisfying specific information needs arising from the status of the Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in the Socialist Federal Republic of Vugoslavia and the repuirements of its multi-lingual audiences. Television Novi Sad also broadcasts its programs in the Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovakian and Ruthenian languages. The music department of Radio-Television Novi Sad has three separate musical groups: a tamburitza orchestra (Tugoslav and Romanian music), a grand national orchestra (Hungarian, Slovakian, Serbian and Romanian music) and a dance band.
