Judith Malina, of The Living Theatre, which has created, over four decades, nearly a hundred experimental theatre works in support of the Beautiful Non-violent Anarchist Revolution, Among the Living Theatre’s best-known productions, which have been performed around the globe, are The Connection, The Brig, Mysteries and Smaller Pieces, Frankenstein and Paradise Now, and the four plays presented in early 1984 at the Joyce Theatre in New York: Antigone, The One and the Many, The Yellow Mathuselah and The Archeology of Sleep. In addition to his life-work on the Living Theatre as director, playwright, actor, and designer, Julian Beck is a painter, a poet, a writer on the theatre, and an actor in films-most recently seen here in Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Edipo Re and Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club. That Time marks his first stage appearance outside the Living Theatre since its founding in 1947 □

Horacio Palacios Horacio Palacios (Assistant to the Director) After a short period working in the “Circo Medrano” in Rome, Palacios met the Living Theatre in 1981 and performed with them as an actor in the following production: Antigone, Masse Mensch, The Yellow Methuselah, The Archeology of Sleep. The company toured all over Europe, performing in French, English, Spanish, and Italian. After performing with the Company at the Joyce Theatre in 1984, Palacios stayed on in New York and began working with Gerald Thomas on two La Mama workshops, while also studying with Bennes Marden. Palacios worked on the Samuel Beckett Theatre production of All Strange Away in various capacities. Most recently he recorded Beckett’s Ping, in Spanish, soon to be broadcast on WBAI.

This project was developed further, with the view of performing Beckett in Spanish in New York □

Marybeth Ward Marybeth Ward (Production Stage Manager) worked last with Gerald Thomas on All Strange Away. Last year she toured with La Mama to Rome with Elizabeth Swados’ Jerusalem and recently returned from Washington D. C. where Ms. Swados’ The Beautiful Lady premiered. She is an Associate Producer of the La Mama Documentary which is currently in post production. She has worked with Tom O’Horgan, Tom Eyen, the National Theatre of France for two seasons, Edward Albee, and the National Theatre for the Deaf. She produced and directed a documentary on the Bowery which

Daniela Thomas Daniela Thomas (Set and Costume Design) designed the set for the world premiere of Beckett All Strange Away at La Mama and the set and costumes for the plays second version at the Samuel Beckett Theatre. She is also an independent filmmaker and founding member of Cross wind Films, a film production company based in London, where she designed, produced, and directed a number of features and documentaries for British Television. In New York she has designed, produced, and directed the movie The Other and I to be shown on PBS □

Alisa Solomon Alisa Solomon (Dramaturg) is currently working as the dramaturg on Jim Simpson’s production of Calderon’s Life is a Dream at the Ark Theatre. She has also been a dramaturg at the American Place Theatre. City Youth Theatre, Yale Rep, and Teatro Cuatro. Alisa writes criticism for the Village Voice and is a member of Performing Artists for Nuclear Disarmament □

Howard S. Thies Howard S. Thies (Lighting Design) last worked with Gerald Thomas and Company on the Harold Clurman production of All Strange Away. This season he has lit the stage for such luminaries as Jackie Curtis in Champagne, Andre de Shields in the La Mama production of Haarlem Nocturne and a cast of thousands under the direction of John Albano, in George Osterman’s On the Lam. Although Howard is only 22, thanks to Ellen Stewart he is happy to be celebrating his 50th year in theatreO

Thomas Walker Thomas Walker (Understudy) has been associated with the Living Theatre since 1971. Since that time he has appeared with the Living in eighteen street theatre creations and in all the Living’s major productions, including Seven Meditations, Six Public Acts, The Money Tower, and Prometheus. He was most recently seen at the Joyce Theatre in 1984 in Antigone, The One and the Many, The Yellow Methuselah, and The Archeology of Sleep □
